1.   Competence Standard

Communicating in English at Elementary Level

2.   Base competence

2.1. Comprehending simple daily conversation in professional or personal context

with non native speakers.

3.   Materials

a.  Talking about hobbies and interests.

-Do you like fishing?

-What do you like doing in your spare time?

b.  Guest handling

-What can I do for you, Sir?

-Welcome to our hotel.

-I hope you enjoy the food.

c. Grammar review:

Yes-No questions

-Are you a secretary?

Question tags

-The board meeting starts at seven, doesn’t it?

Questions with question words

-Where does the boss live?

-Why do you come late?

Gerund as subjects

-Smoking is dangerous.

Gerund as objects

-I don’t like fishing.

Gerund as compliment

-Her job is shorting the mail.

Gerund after preposition

-Are you interested in collecting stamps?

Constructions with “too” and “enough”

-The soup is too salty for me.

-The hotel room is comfortable enough.

4.   Indicators

-The kind of expressions about hobbies and interests.

-The expressions of guest handling at hotel, restaurant, travel agency are

demonstrated by the students.

-The questions with yes-no questions, question tags, question words are

demonstrated and answered in daily activities.

5.   Specific Objectives

-The students are able to express about hobbies and interests.

-The students are able to express the expressions of guest handling.

-The students are able to express and answer the questions with yes-no questions,

question tags, question words.

a.        Pre-activities

-Absence.

-Review the matter before.

-The students understand about the matter before.

b.       Whilst Activities

– Listening:        Answering questions based on recorded materials.

Dialogues about guest handling.

– Speaking:       Telling about one’s own daily activities.

Role playing about guest handling.

– Reading :        Answering questions about hobbies and interests.

– Writing  :        Writing descriptions of other’s daily activities.

Writing sentences containing gerund.

Arranging sentences containing “too” and “enough”

c.       Post Activities

-Conclusion the matter, give the questions

-Give the students home work

b.   Grammar:

Personal pronouns

I-me-my-mine-myself

Reported speech

-He said that you had to pay for the tickets.

-He asked you to pay for the tickets.

-He wanted to know where you put his umbrella.

Adjective clause

-Do you know the staff who will be promoted our new division manager?

4.   Indicators

– Note  the messages are received by telephone, short messages, direct

messages.

5.   Specific Objectives

The students are able to respond the messages by telephone, short messages, direct

messages.

– Writing  :       Writing messages based on telephone conversations.

Composing sentences using reported speech, personal pronouns and  adjective clause.

-Conclusion the matter, give the questions

-Give the students  home work
